As measures to fight against the pandemic progress, Germany has announced it will expand its restrictions to the 2G rule to prevent hospitalizations and help curb infection rates. This rule only allows fully vaccinated people or those who can show proof of recovery from Covid-19 into recreational facilities and other venues. Following Italy, Bulgaria, or Austria, Germany's move comes in response to the rising number of new cases and the increasing pressure on intensive care units. What is the 2G Rule?

The 2G Rule stands for the German words: geimpft and genesen meaning vaccinated or recovered. In Germany, access to many public places is only granted to people who are vaccinated against Covid or have recovered from Covid in the last six months. The 2G rules are meant to be enforced when hospitalization rates reach a certain threshold to protect people and health systems.

The restrictions will mainly take place in: Restaurants, hotels, museums, gyms, sport centers, swimming pools, outdoor events with more than 2,000 attendees, or indoor events with more than 20 attendees, among others. The 2G Rule in contrast to measures that have been widely used so far, does not allow unvaccinated people to enter the premises even if they test negative for coronavirus.

In order to verify the validity of EU Digital COVID Certificates or the recovered status of a user and ensure correct authentication, ZKTeco has launched a series of ZK Green Pass QR Code Verification Scanners.

When the QR Code verification process is completed, the access control turnstiles or speed gates allow or block entry to the person who presented the valid or expired EU Digital COVID Certificate.
